PSYCHIATRY RESIDENCY PROGRAM MISSION 

The program mission is to provide residents with a comprehensive postgraduate education specialized in Psychiatry, which is in compliance with the ACGME requirements and specialty board requirements, in order to graduate capable, knowledgeable and compassionate Psychiatrists, who will become experts clinicians, researchers, educators and health administrators, and who will be able to provide mental health care in any clinical setting and field of the specialty, offering significant contributions to the specialty of Psychiatry. 

PSYCHIATRY RESIDENCY PROGRAM AIMS 

The SWH Psychiatry Residency Program aims to educate residents who are selected from a diverse background, through a comprehensive educational program specialized in Psychiatry, in order to graduate next generations of psychiatrists who holds the highest clinical, academic, and professional standards of medicine, and who will be competent to serve the mental health needs of diverse communities, in any clinical setting and in any field of Psychiatry.

Develop a comprehensive educational program, which satisfies the needs of the community and our residents’ goals and professional relevance. To establish a curriculum in concordance with the program’s aims, through a systematic approach grounded on evidence-based medicine, the scientific literature, Current Psychiatry Guidelines, and on the core competencies. 

Educate residents to achieve the ACGME requirements, specialty board requirements, and the program’s goals and objectives.

  

Focus education on the medical, biological, and psychosocial factors that originate emotional-mental illness, behavioral issues, and global functional impairment. 

We aim to prepare and graduate generations of psychiatrists who will acquire board certification in psychiatry to provide expert services to the community, and who will consider opportunities to pursue subspecialty training or careers in clinical psychiatry, research, and academic Psychiatry. 

Graduate Psychiatrists who focus their career on a life-long learning approach, quality improvement, patient safety, ethical values, professionalism, evidence based medical principles, and scholarships.  

Establish and mature the program aims consistently with the institution’s mission, the distinctive capabilities of our residents, and the needs of the community that our graduates will serve.
